ENHANCING VEHICULAR AND PEDESTRIAN SAFETY TO ADDRESS COLLISION AND SPEEDING CONCERNS
The project aimed to enhance safety and operational efficiency by addressing community concerns about frequent collisions and speeding. Key improvements included ADA-compliant curb ramps, dual left-turn lanes, pedestrian islands, traffic signal modifications, and traffic management plans. J2 collaborated with Gorove Slade to develop CRCP and VDOT Signal Modification Plans, providing comprehensive design and construction support services.
THE CHALLENGE
The project faced budget constraints, impacts on adjacent properties, and the need to preserve a decorative retaining wall at the Great Falls Plaza shopping center. Existing improvements from a previous VDOT project required careful scope adjustments to avoid redundancy and unnecessary costs.
The Solution
THE SOLUTION
J2 evaluated and revised the project scope to integrate existing modifications, ensuring cost efficiency. Proactive recommendations preserved community assets, including the decorative wall, and improved access for delivery vehicles. The team delivered ADA-compliant, low-maintenance solutions while optimizing the design to meet project goals.
