Broad Run Wastewater Reclamation Facility
KEEPING UP WITH GROWTH DEMANDS OF A THRIVING COMMUNITY
J2 provided design and permitting support for expanding the Broad Run Reclamation Facility, which treats the daily demands of 15 MGD. The firm assisted in the review and analysis of site stormwater design, took the lead on site grading as well as erosion and sediment control measures, planned relocation of contractor administrative trailers and staging area, and prepared a Special Exception application to Loudoun County to permit a portion of the Broad Run floodplain to be filled.
THE CHALLENGE
Loudoun County needed to update the Wastewater Reclamation Facility due to continued growth and demand within the County. The primary challenge was fitting new processes and technologies on a site area that was defined years ago. Additionally, the site area was reduced further due to the County and FEMA redrawing the floodplain map that encroached into the site area.
THE SOLUTION
During layout and design, J2 worked with Loudoun Water to provide a coordinated plan set, reviewed and analyzed the site stormwater design, and determined site grading as well as erosion and sediment control measures. A Special Exception application permitted a portion of the Broad Run floodplain to be filled. It was determined that the optimum location for the new equalization tanks was an area of the property where the floodplain update by the County produced a greater encroachment into the property.
