Jon Overton, PS

Jon’s passion for surveying was inspired by his father’s career as a civil engineer and a love for the outdoors. While studying geology at Virginia Tech, he spent his summers in the field surveying. He joined J2 as a survey manager and later accepted a full-time role, drawn by the authenticity of the firm’s leadership and their commitment to integrity while putting people first.

Jon’s role leading the Survey Group allows him to oversee the growth of the department while facilitating the personal and career paths of his team. From licensure to career advancement to helping with specific goals, he believes his purpose is to provide mentorship and insight.

Passionate about guiding people, Jon is a born mentor and leader volunteering over the decades as a basketball and baseball coach in his community. He is also an active member of the Maryland Society of Surveyors and the National Society of Professional Surveyors, organizations through which he can give back to the industry.

Jon is also deeply committed to family. The Overton family enjoys regular vacations across the U.S., visiting national parks, and they look forward to expanding their travels to Europe, with Ireland and Iceland at the top of their list.
