LCPS The North Star School
DESIGNING A NEW SCHOOL WITH COMMUNITY INTEGRATION AND LID INNOVATIONS
J2 played a pivotal role in the site/civil design and zoning entitlements for The North Star School, a 94,000 SF two-story building, serving as the new home for LCPS' Alternative and Adult Education programs. The project incorporates Low Impact Design (LID) features such as bio-filters, bio-retention basins, LED lighting, and enhanced landscape buffers. Since this project is surrounded by two residential neighborhoods and a park, one important project goal was to ensure compatibility with the existing uses, and that the pedestrian and vehicular traffic generated by the project would not conflict with the existing traffic in the neighborhood and on the streets serving the site.
CHALLENGE AND SOLUTION
To optimize the project schedule and deliver a timely transition from the demolition of the C.S. Monroe site to the construction of the new North Star School, J2 strategically managed zoning entitlements and site plan design simultaneously. This approach was aimed at saving valuable time in the overall project timeline, ensuring efficient progress for our client.
